Lunch in France
Tuesday 11 June
Aux Amis de Stef, Echinghen, close to Boulogne
Our special day trip to France begins when you board the coach. Warm pastries and Bucks Fizz are served while we are on our way to the Channel Tunnel. Aux Amis de Stef is a friendly, traditional village restaurant in the countryside near Boulogne with the added benefit that the delightful young couple who own it, Stefan and Sandy, learned their craft from working at Hostellerie de la Riviere..... and it shows. A glass of champagne is served on arrival with an amuse bouche. In the summer months we are greeted with our glass of champagne in the garden if the weather allows. This is then followed by four courses, accompanied by specially selected white and red wines. The leisurely lunch is completed by coffee and petit fours. The food is served in the friendly, relaxed manner you look for in French dining and the meal is always very good.
There is normally time to visit the Auchan hypermarket nearby for those uniquely French items of shopping to take home. On the train back to Folkestone we serve a light supper of fresh French bread with cheeses, pate and grapes.
