Cardiff is a compact, friendly capital city where you will be assured of a warm Welsh welcome.  It’s spectacular castle in the heart of the city was once a Roman fort, a Norman stronghold and a Victorian Gothic palace.  In the 19th century it became a mediaeval dream world for the 3rd Marquess of Bute and the results are simply breathtaking; it has opulent interiors with gilding, elaborate wood carving, murals and stained glass. Wales is proud of the standard of its food and there are are some excellent places to eat in the city centre and at Cardiff Bay which is the coastal corner of this capital city. Formerly a thriving tidal dockyard, the area is now a vibrant waterfront surrounding the shore of a stunning freshwater lake. We are including a boat trip across Cardiff Bay.      Our Grade 11 listed hotel is situated a short distance from Cardiff in an elevated position in Thornhill  It affords lovely views across the city, to the sea and countryside.
